I was away on a vacation in California last week and had the great fortune of visiting friends and family I haven’t seen in quite a few years. It was exactly what I hoped it would be, relaxing and reconnecting with the people and places I love there.
When I was there I learned that I sold a painting in the REINVENTION II show at ARC Gallery in Chicago! It’s the first show I have been in at this gallery, and it is a painting that doesn’t look like a lot of my other paintings. I made it as part of a series after I had completed a three-month course on design and value last year. It’s called, “Turning Point,” and is acrylic on a 12″ x 12″ board. The exhibit goes until November 24.
I also have a show up at Gather in Evanston. It has most of the paintings I had in my Lore show earlier this year. Angela Lyonsmith, the curator for their art space, posted this on Instagram after we put it up. I am very lucky to know people like her. In this exciting, challenging, rewarding, sometimes brutal art life it is people who make all the difference. The show is up until early January 2019.
In case you can’t see the tiny print like I can’t, here is what it says:
“We are thrilled to announce that @jackierueckertlakely artwork is back at Gather this season! This show, entitled “Lore” is such a wonderful journey into the stories and symbolism of folklore, imagery inspired by her residency in Scotland, and an inspiring snap shot of her work’s layers of meaning and beauty. We hope it will inspire you too! This piece called “the wishing tree” is a prominent focal point as we build our own gratitude tree this season. Please scroll through the images and get inspired… or better yet come in to see her work and play with us soon!”
I am teaching classes at the Oak Park Art League in their three week session between Thanksgiving and Christmas. I’ll offer Watercolor Techniques on Thursdays from 4:00-6:00 pm, and Mixed Media Techniques on Saturdays from 10:00 am-Noon. The session goes from November 26 – December 15. You can register here.
I have a painting in the Fall Members’ Show at OPAL, too. It is a relatively new painting that has become another part of the Lore series, and I worked on it most of the summer and finished it at the end of September. It’s called, “Ghosts in the Light,” and is acrylic and oil pastel on 48″ x 36″ board. The exhibit is up until November 30.
As Thanksgiving is tomorrow it seems a good time to say a heartfelt THANK YOU to all who have helped me book shows, bought and commissioned my artwork, helped me in critiques, taught me in classes, showed up to openings, offered inspiration, and who continue to offer support in lots of other ways in 2018. I am lucky to know all of you. <3
