Friday morning I was in Oak Park to meet with my critique group, which, as always, was a few hours of nourishment for my soul. I sure do love these three women (Galen, MaryJo and Kelly), and every time we meet I recognize how our artwork is an extended conversation of ourselves and a synchronistic meeting of minds. I brought some paintings I’ve really been stuck on for a while and even before we started to talk about my work that day I saw possible solutions just by looking at their work. Not because I would ever copy, but because so often what one of us is struggling with the others are already solving in their/our own work. It’s now going on ten years we have been meeting every few months, so I guess it’s really that we understand what each of us is working toward. To say I feel lucky to have these women as friends and trusted critique partners is such a bland understatement. I feel like we found each other at the right time and in the right circumstances of our work to continue this relationship for this long and find it so productive and loving. Synchronicity. Something beyond luck.

I was in Oak Park so I decided after our meeting that I would stop by CrossFunction to see my artwork up on the walls in that beautiful building, and take some photos. My work is there featured in the lobby for at least a couple of months. The show was curated and hung by Maria Gedroc, and I thank her profusely for asking me to show and for installing the work, along with one of the owners of CrossFunction, Trent Stoner.

Here are a few photos of the show:

One of the paintings just sold this evening, so that is good news! Also, I have a couple of mixed media classes set to start the week of September 11 at the Oak Park Art League. Go here to register. : )

Happy Labor Day Weekend! XO
