I have a PopUp Show at the Oak Park Art League that I just installed today and will be up in the front windows accompanying the November Members’ Show in the Main Gallery! I’m excited just because it’s my first sort-of solo show in a couple of years, and the center piece of the show is a giant full moon (inspired by May’s Flower Moon) and tonight is October’s full moon. Synergy!
Since the show is in the front windows of the gallery you can stop by and have a look if the gallery is open or closed, which is handy as COVID restrictions on indoor gatherings are changing up again as we get deeper into Autumn.
As of now the opening for the Members’ Show is Friday, November 13, from 7-9:00 pm. As OPAL has been doing all summer through October, the openings are strictly socially distant, with mask requirements to enter the gallery. They have outdoor seating but we’ll see how that feels in mid-November. Check the website for updates, probably the week of the opening, if you are planning on going.
All of the artwork in the PopUp show have been completed in the past few months, though the two large pieces I started in 2017. They began life as a part of a different series, but as that series took shape they weren’t ready to tell me what they wanted to become until this year. Some paintings are just like that and I’ve learned that when I try to force them to completion things go wrong.
There are a few blended narratives going on in this show, a sky/sea connection, vessels, and pieces connected to my idea of home. If you know my work well this is not new. These threads intersect often.
I hope you get to stop by and if not I’ll be downloading the images, titles and prices on my New Works page in the next day or two.
Meanwhile, Happy Halloween!
