First things first – this coming Saturday I am teaching a Black and White Mixed Media workshop at the Oak Park Art League, from 10-4:00 pm, and there are a few spots left if you are in the mood for a marathon of getting up close and personal with black and white paint, crayons, oil pastels, pens, inks, and charcoal to clarify values, composition, differences, richness and depth in your artwork. It will be fun, I promise!

Happy Holidays!

This time last year I was not remotely feeling it and had a really hard time celebrating anything. At least not in the festive-happy-cozy-party-merry sense. That was the first time I can remember ever just outright rejecting the ritual and traditions and decorating. It all just felt so exhausting. The good thing about it was realizing that opting out of the hoopla was totally acceptable and a healthy thing for me to do. I discovered the joy of missing out as a fantastic alternative to the fear of missing out.

This year I am much brighter about the holiday season. Thanksgiving was lovely and cooking was fun. I started the day with a 3 hour tennis clinic, too, which was a great way to get energized, be social, and somewhat justify the decadent meal later in the day.

Now I have switched gears into intense work mode for a few weeks, mostly because I am participating in a Holiday Market December 13-14, and for the Holiday 100 Art Show and Fundraiser, both at the Oak Park Art League. I also have a major deadline for a collection of collage illustrations I’ve been working on for the past almost two years, but that’s another story for another day. Happily, it feels great to be working on all of this stuff after spending most of this year working full time at Misericordia, where I loved to be but left very little room for art making.

I will have ornaments, cards and small paintings for sale at the Holiday Market, which starts on Friday, December 13, from 5-9:00 pm, and coincides with the opening reception for the Holiday 100 show. Please stop by if you are in the neighborhood!

Coming up in 2020 I will have quite a few workshops on offer in January and February, and will be offering a weekly mixed media class on Tuesday afternoons. Register for workshops here: https://www.oakparkartleague.com/content.aspx?page_id=22&club_id=173882&module_id=375044

Wishing you a happy, festive, and peaceful holiday season! XO

Last minute Addendum: I had to cancel my participation in this weekend’s Art Market. Such a bummer. I may post items I was going to have there on etsy in the near future…
