“Favorite Things” sketch collage by residents of Misericordia

This is a 36″ x 48″ collage of a bunch of resident drawings, sketches and paper I collected over a three month period in my art room. All of it is fun and sweet, but I love the variety of animals, food, sports teams, and references to friends, family, and Misericordia groups and gatherings. I’m sharing it because it was the last big project of my time as a full time art instructor there. I loved my job and will miss working with the residents, but it was tough commute that would often add up to three hours in my car per day, and I realized it was not sustainable for me.

I will become a volunteer at Misericordia, and return to making art and teaching classes and workshops around the area. I have two workshops coming up at the Oak Park Art League –

Accordion Sketchbooks with Mixed Media – Saturday, November 9, 10-4:00

Accordion Sketchbooks are a great way to explore a narrative, create a series, and experiment with techniques, patterns, and discovering new ideas for your artwork.

Black and White with Mixed Media Workshop – Saturday, December 7, 10-4:00

Working in black and white can be helpful in clarifying fundamental principles in making art – value, composition, and differences, and exploring richness, depth, and the juxtaposition of intuition and control.

I will also have some new work in the upcoming Artist Member show at OPAL, from November 8 – December 10. It feels really good to be back in my studio.

Sidenote: Just after leaving my full time post at Misericordia I was able to travel to Shetland with my mom for the first time in a decade. It was a really great trip to have taken together, and I’ll post some photos and tell you about it in a few days …

A teaser:

My favorite place in the world.
