About Jackie

Sometimes when I paint I like to study what is in front of me and sometimes I like to create people, places and things out of my head, and often my work is a combination of realistic and abstract, literal and metaphorical. I am directly inspired by nature’s lines, colors, beauty, rawness, and enormity. I am thrilled by language and stories as well, and I like to create narratives inspired by poems, songs, and folklore.

I work in watercolor, acrylic paint, oil pastels, charcoal, collage and inks, often layering several different media in one piece. Not always, though. The power of a simple (or not so simple) watercolor always excites me. When I work in lots of layers, though, I like to think of the paintings as excavations in which evidence of all the layers is laid out for the viewer to see.
